Intermountain Medical Center

A 1.2 million square foot, 468-bed flagship medical center for the IHC system, consolidates services previously dispersed among four medical centers in the IHC urban central region. Built on a 110-acre campus that is centrally located in the Salt Lake Valley and is the largest hospital in the Intermountain West - serving as the major adult referral center for six surrounding states and more than 75 regional health care institutions. The organizational concept for the project is the creation of five institute centers of excellence. The Women’s and Newborns, Tertiary Trauma, Heart & Lung, Ambulatory Care and Oncology Centers of Excellence anchors the campus with physician office space dispensed throughout. Each has a distinct identity and patient service to facilitate ambitions of introducing the patient experience and efficiency of care while sharing the campus support infrastructure. Each institute has separate growth zones allowing future additions to supplement the state of the art services for years to come. The physical space for these individuals centers include: the 15-story tertiary inpatient/critical care-level 1 trauma hospital; a seven-story heart and lung center providing an advanced treatment for cardiac and respiratory patients, a five-story women's and newborn hospital; a six-story ambulatory and outpatient diagnostics hospital, a three-story cancer treatment hospital. Medical education and research facilities and clinics are also on the campus, as will physician office space. Intermountain Medical Center is a teaching hospital - working in conjunction with the University of Utah School of Medicine and area nursing colleges. Intermountain Medical Center's five centers, together with its other supporting facilities, offers a careful balance of seclusion and connection that make the campus both effective and efficient.
